Here's a quarter, please use it to buy a clue

I think human doctors need a better clue about the interaction between people and their pets. A couple of infectious disease specialists would like me to "get rid" of Lola. These are doctors who have never met me and don't have a lot of reference materials about FIV, so I assume they're going on the better safe than sorry trip.

I probably know more about FIV than these doctors do, and I'm sure I know more about the relationship you can form with a companion animal. I'd never say to somebody "get rid" of your pet.

For what it's worth, I'm going against medical advice and keeping my Lola with me. We'll be taking care of her claws with covers called Soft Paws that will prevent her from breaking skin or upholstery. Since the doctor's exact caution was one scratch and you could be at risk.

I mean, duh.

On the bright side, the nurse I talked to had never owned a cat, but she said her daughter wants one, so I told her about adoption and encouraged her to get a shelter cat. I told her I'd bring some information when I'm out there next week.

I guess that's my good deed for the day.
